Enter Sandman (Or not...): Adolescents and Sleep
Presenter: Dr. Dawn Dore-Stites
Sunday, September 18, 2022 - 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm
**Eligible for 1 FREE CE to MPA Members ONLY**
(Registration is FREE, but required for all attendees)
Event Description:
Adolescent sleep problems are often an under-recognized contributor to a host of health and social concerns including school absences, elevated suicide risk, and risk behaviors. Further understanding of the biological processes impacting adolescent sleep informs stronger evidence-based practice--whether the presenting concern is sleep-related or not. This presentation will cover circadian rhythm influences on adolescent sleep, discuss the function behind common sleep problems, and outline potential interventions to help ensure that sleep patterns serve as a strong foundation for adolescent health.
About the Presenter:
Dr. Dawn Dore-Stites completed her graduate training in clinical psychology at WMU. Her training included internship at Children’s Hospital of Michigan which focused specifically on pediatric psychology, a branch of psychology that blends child clinical and health psychology. After internship, she completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Michigan, where she was fortunate to receive additional training in behavioral interventions in pediatric sleep and elimination disorders. Upon completion of fellowship, she joined the faculty in the division of Pediatric Psychology at the University of Michigan where she remains as a clinical associate professor and proud member of the Sleep Disorders Center. Clinically, Dr. Dore-Stites works with children and adolescents struggling with sleep disorders and elimination disorders (fecal or urine incontinence). Dr. Dore-Stites relies on evidence-based treatment including behavioral and cognitive-behavioral strategies and tailors treatment to the individual needs of the child and their family.
(You will receive a registration confirmation with Zoom information upon completion)
