How This Committee Fulfills MPA’s Mission
- Promote psychologists’ training and skills, including integration in medical settings.
- Advocate for reimbursement policies aligned with scope of practice and expertise.
- Support inclusion in quality‑improvement initiatives and fair credentialing standards.
- Work to reduce barriers posed by managed‑care carve‑outs and administrative practices.
- Educate insurers and the public about mental health services and integrated care.
Member Self‑Advocacy (Quick Guidance)
- Engage your provider representative; escalate to decision‑makers as needed.
- Review contract terms and, if needed, consult MPA’s one‑time free legal benefit by emailing the MPA Office.
- If appropriate, file a query with the Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services regarding compliance.
- Invite patients to advocate through their HR departments when plan policies impede access.
- Share experiences on the MPA listserv to help the community learn and respond.

- Monitor and respond to systemic insurance issues affecting multiple members.
