How This Committee Fulfills MPA’s Mission

  • Promote psychologists’ training and skills, including integration in medical settings.
  • Advocate for reimbursement policies aligned with scope of practice and expertise.
  • Support inclusion in quality‑improvement initiatives and fair credentialing standards.
  • Work to reduce barriers posed by managed‑care carve‑outs and administrative practices.
  • Educate insurers and the public about mental health services and integrated care.

Member Self‑Advocacy (Quick Guidance)

  • Engage your provider representative; escalate to decision‑makers as needed.
  • Review contract terms and, if needed, consult MPA’s one‑time free legal benefit by emailing the MPA Office.
  • If appropriate, file a query with the Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services regarding compliance.
  • Invite patients to advocate through their HR departments when plan policies impede access.
  • Share experiences on the MPA listserv to help the community learn and respond.

  • Pursue policies and practices that increase timely access to care and reduce administrative burden.
  • Monitor and respond to systemic insurance issues affecting multiple members.
